Where The Sidewalk Ends Monday Surf & Culture report
Lost Boys & Co...
Not only is fall in the air, but it's on the calendar as well! Yep, it's our first report of the season as we sprinkle ourselves with cinnamon and pumpkin spice...
Gray skies and limited visibility with patches of random fog. Winds are out of the south by 1 to 3kts and the sea surface is lightly textured. The air was 62.2º at checkout and the water temperature is 65.7º. Getting uncomfortably close to a season defining 65º. Low tide was at 6:38am +2.8' and high tide will be at 1:27pm +5.6'. It's a minuscule 1.6' SSW swell out of 193º and it's about half of that on the beach...
In all fairness the sign (#1) says "No Parking or Stopping Anytime" and then goes on to say "No Motorized Vehicles... On STRAND." So this fellow taking things on face value didn't stop on the Strand, but made it all the way to the sand. When the local constabulary arrived they couldn't quite figure out what to do. They posited that the sand was county property and they are Hermosa cops. So they waited for backup and by the time the third prowler got there, a helpful citizen had helped the guy get his car onto the concrete and he was backing up threatening to run into the Brother's patio. He looked like he was fourteen and when he got through thanking the guy who helped him, he wondered why Pacific Coast Highway ended so abruptly. Yeah, what's with that...?
