In China where they were uncovering the terracotta warriors, they decided to stop because when the figures are brought to the surface, their polychrome finish oxidizes and they become the flat gray we've come to recognize.  It's a bit the same at Palenque.  They've become hesitant to uncover things too quickly since they run into the same issues of oxidation and decomposition.  All of the buildings were thought to have been covered in painted stucco, but the jungle and heat takes it's toll on everything but the basic stone...

Another summer-like morning in the So. Bay with only a few high clouds to mar the blue sky and 20+ miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the south by 2.3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 62.7 and the water was 61.3, getting up to almost 65 mid-day.  High tide was at 9:17am +4.4' and low tide will be at 3:06pm +0.8'.  We have a 3.0' swell out of 238º SW and it was a fun 3' to 4' in the surfline with some nice little lefts...

A new edition to customer service at Brother's Burritos is the key safe next to the door.  Already attracting some stickers, the surfers are stashing their keys there without bothering the crew.  Although, we're going to miss catching a curveball from Ivan or a sinker from Yoshi...

Not quite sure if this was a threshold or some type of pediment.  Interesting with the two feet at the ends facing down.  Leaves you wondering what the rest of the structure looked like...
