Tearjerker Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Never wanting to travel without proper lubrication, Capitan Donaldo (a.k.a. Don Congrejo, Donny, Charles Donald Souther) suggested we stop at his namesake in Villa Hermosa...

Depending on when you were reconnoitering this morning, you either got 10 miles visibility and clear skies or fog and 50yds visibility.  Winds were off by 3.6kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 59.9 and the water is inching up slowly to 58.6.  High tide was at 8:25am +5.4' and low tide will be at 2:44pm -0.5'.  We have a 3.0' swell out of 202º SSW and it was 3' to 4' with some nice little peaks along most of the beach breaks...

The great pyramid at Palenque is really pretty impressive.  It stands at the south end of the quadrangle, it's stairway facing the "tree of life."  When the Spaniards came to Palenque in the mid 17th century, the whole area was covered with forests and dense jungle vegetation.  It turns out that that was a blessing, since they didn't know what they were looking at.  Later people uncovered some of the mounds and found burial sites, but the bodies were covered in jade and everyone was looking for gold.  Currently about 5% of the site is developed.  They thought it was more like 10%, but satellite imagery now indicates there's more out there than they thought...
