The Foaming Merciless Sea Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

The surf WAS big this morning.  Maybe not as big as advertised in some predictions, but still big enough.  We'll start with #1 to give you some perspective.  Zoom in on the middle of this pic and you'll see the lifeguard buoy on the inside of this cresting wave.  This is special because that buoy is about 150 yards out!  To say that this is unusual would be an understatement...

Cloudy and a bit ominous this morning with no wind and 5 miles visibility.  The air temperature was 57.3 and the water is still advertised at 62.6.  High tide was early at 5:13am +5.0' and low tide will be at 11:58am +1.4'.  At 7:30am this morning the buoy was registering a 5.6' swell (that's been increasing hourly, at 3pm it was 8.5') out of 268º west.  But it looked quite a bit bigger than the swell height suggested.  We'll call it 8' to 10' and bigger depending on where you're standing...

Maybe it would help if we showed the end of the pier (#2).  That's just about even with the buoy.  So here's one cresting even with the end of the pier, but like you know, you never have your camera ready to get the biggest one.  So if you follow the white water out, you can see the previous waves trail.  It had broken about 20' out farther...

Everything's Fun Until Someone Loses An Eye Department:
Here's our first offering for things to put under the tree for Christmas.  Yep, it's the Daisy "Red Ryder" Carbine, 650 shot, Lever Cocking, BB gun (#3).  It's a remake of the 1938 model that's been blinding kids since it came out.  The fact that it's $22 might lead you to believe that it's a .22 caliber weapon, but no, that's just the fabulous discount price you get at WalMart...  To be fair, this display was in the WalMart in Boise, Idaho.  If it had been here, we can only imagine 10 Lost Boys commandeering the weaponry and shooting their way out...  People have this weird little way of jumping when they get hit in the ass with a BB...

We stopped at the Breakwall as the swell was starting to peak...  Greg Browning was suiting up, Randy Meistrel was waiting for more tide and one of the Brewers had just broken a board...  Not positive, but we think this (#4) is Chris Wells on this bumped up left...

No happy hour this week, since most spots are hosting Christmas parties...  However, we're planning to make it to Laurel Tavern to ring in the New Year.  Join up!  It won't be the same without you...  Should we dress up?  Let us know...
