Catch Our Drift Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Undeniable Edward Weston influence in this driftwood shot (#1) the Professor took on the Dungeness Sand Spit.  Okay, it's a bit short on depth and intensity, but pulchritude...  It's full of pulchritude...

Hazy sun this morning and we were up early for the Kickoff Classic in El Porto.  Winds were offshore and the sea surface was smooth with a definite roll.  The air temp was 58.3 and warmed quickly and the water was 67.1.  High tide was mercifully late at 11:13am +5.5' and low tide followed at 6:23pm +0.6'.  Tides flip in the morning.  We have a SSW swell out of 210º at 3' and it's been getting bigger and turning west as the day goes on...  The pier was going off all morning...

Here (#2) we have LoLa standing on the door to the underworld.  Local legend has it that this is where Virgil lead Dante on their various adventures into Hades.  It was so heavy we couldn't even peek, thank goodness...

Further on down the beach (#3) we ran into either the skull of a Triceratops, the base of the second largest table we had ever seen or the remains of the first Russian outpost on the Washington coast.  The Maharishi and the Professor discussed the means to remove this object and send it to Buck's front yard.  They were largely unsuccessful but managed to pry out a limb that bore a passing resemblance to a moray eel which now props up his mailbox.

This morning at El Porto we had the first 16 rounds of the South Bay Scholastic Surfing Association's Kickoff Classic.  There were some great waves and the surfers matched the quality of the waves with their own outstanding performances...  Round One continues next week...

Tavern... Laurel...  You need a drink...
