It's All Uphill Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

The lovely Anna Barclay and her husband Misha tied the knot on the 5th of October in the gladed woodlands of Saratoga / Santa Cruz.  It was a meeting of the clans and to say "a good time was had by all," would be a gross understatement...

A beautiful fall morning here in the Southland with 15 miles visibility and partly cloudy skies.  The winds were light offshore by 2.7kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 56.9 and the water is 67.1.  High tide was at 10:43am +5.6' and low tide was at 5:37pm +0.5'.  There is a SSW swell out of 201º at 2.6' and it was 2' to almost 3'.  Your best bet is to try and catch it early...

The Kickoff Classic Contest for the South Bay Scholastic Surfing Association will start tomorrow at El Porto, 38th St. at 6:30am.  This is a great opportunity to see some of the outstanding prep surfers in the South Bay.  We get used to surfing with our friends and it's fun to see some surfing outside the box...

Up in Sequim, Washington the fall colors were really starting to get under way.  We're not quite sure why, but we saw quite a bit of Spanish moss on the deciduous trees there (#2).  It's something we always associated with warmer climes...

We had a nice little cabin on the Three Crabs Road peninsula.  The view on the west side of the property (#3) was of a great duck pond.  After a few days we noticed they were building some blinds.  It turns out that this is a private gun club and you can pay for the opportunity to scare some ducks up and blast them out of the air as they try to escape.  The good news is that after all the shooting we only saw one duck get whacked...

On the east side of the property was a great view of the Strait of Juan De Fuca and the lighthouse on the Dungeness Spit (#4) (you can see it out there on the end of the sand spit.)  Let's not kid ourselves, it's pretty damned cold up here.  Whether you're on the water, which on this day was 53.2 or the land which was 53.1, it's a bit brisk.  Like booties, gloves and hood brisk, with a 5/6 wetsuit.  We visited a couple of surfing beaches and were told some of the better spots were closely guarded secrets.  Good.  We told them not worry, we had seen enough...  Now can we go back to the fireplace?...
