Good King Wenceslaus Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Here we go, two days until Christmas and Brendan Simmons, being the good Irish lad that he is, hugs it up with the elf (#1)!  It seems that the Irish have a way with Leprechauns, elves and gnomes.  A necessary talent at this special time of year...  He also had his way with his board "The Simmonizer" this morning.  You can order a "Simmonizer" from José built to your specifications

Things are calming a bit until the weekend (#2) and it was hazy this morning with 2 miles visibility.  Winds were light offshore by 3.2kts and the sea surface rates a "glassy" this morning.  The water was 59.9º and the air was a goose-bumping 48.3º.  (No geese were bumped in the creation of this report.)  Low tide took it's time at 11:49am +1.6' and high tide will be at 5:21pm +3.3'.  We have a west swell out of 266º at 2.3' and it was 2' to 3' and all the good children got perfect little waves and the rest of us got bumpy nuggets.  We do have to mention that Mr. Christian (of hot sauce fame) got TWO solid rides out to the lineup from inside.  The backwash peaked up and on the first wave he almost hung five.  About 15 minutes later on a second wave, he stretched past everyone sitting there watching in amazement.  Made us think about "In's and Out's."  ..."All the kids had been riding out for years, so they were riding in.  But Robert and Mike couldn't believe it and kept riding out..."

Leroy Grannis takes one shot of Dewey Weber like this and you see it in all the surfing magazines, in ads and they make a bronze statue out of it.  Roustan takes this photo of Jah Morgan (#3), doing the same turn, in an elf costume, with a cool board and you get to see it here...  And she's smiling!

By now you're thinking that you should've joined in the "Sruf Familia Secret Santa Exchange."  Well, you're right.  Here (#4) we have our favorite pizza chef Brendáno Esimmonés, wearing his gifted apron and decorator towel...

We're walking back from checking the surf from the pier and we see this old guy (we're old, so we know old) trying to THROW this Santa hat on Tim Kelly so he can take a photo to send to his relateds in Peoria.  So, thinking that it's Christmas and we need all the goodwill we can garner, we sidled up and said, "Hey, you need a hand there?"  He allowed that he wanted to get a pic with the hat on T.K., so we climbed up and arranged it like so...  He was thrilled and we got a snap as well...  No word from Peoria...
