It Should Be Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Well, I SHOULD be beginning to look a lot like Christmas, but it seems like it's taking it's own sweet time getting us into the spirit.  In the meantime, we're looking at the forecast (#1) and thinking we might have another good run of surf mañana if the swell keeps steady and the winds stay off.

It was chilly this morning with the air at 50º and the water at 59.9º.  Skies were partly cloudy and the occasional sun peeking through felt awfully good.  Winds were offshore by 4 to 5kts and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The ocean was slate gray and the breaking waves created numerous studies in gray and white, not to mention the wind manicured curls.  High tide was at 5:32am +5.7' and low tide follows at 12:11pm +0.6'.  On this first day of Hanukkah we have a WSW swell out of 248º at 3.3'.  It was 3' to 4' with some picturesque waves to dance through.  Hoping our luck holds through tomorrow!...

(#2)  Here's our art-shot of a burned out redwood in the western Sierras.  Like so many of these trees, this one was still alive and had greenery sprouting from the trunk high above the ground.  Actually, fire is an integral part of the life cycle of these trees and they need the heat from the fires to pop open their cones and distribute the seeds.  It also clears the underbrush and allows more light to reach the developing seedlings...

(#3)  Opening the vault we found this gem from Danger Girl, from maybe the first Hennessey Paddle Contest.  From L. to R.:  Big Wave Dave, SeaWolf, DJ, Easky, Danger Boy, the Professor, Lethal Keithal, the Coach and kneeling in front Doc Sno...  It was a 2 mile race and the Lost Boys acquitted themselves nobly.  They also ate all of the tacos and ran off with the swag at the after-party at Riviera Mex.  Danny Williams reminds us every time we go there for dinner...  (that's been awhile...)

Three more weeks until Christmas Eve.  Time to start being good...
