New Year's Eve Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Well, here it is.  Another year running down to the short strokes and everyone is trying to decide if we should celebrate or hunker down and wait until the dust clears.  Now we could be in Idaho (#1) and it would be 28º and we would be up to our knees in snow.  But here on the Left Coast it's sunny and bright and we have at least 10 miles visibility with some fluffy clouds skidding by on the 6 to 10kt winds out of the west.  The air at checkout was 43.8º and the water is right there at 57.7º and not sporting frozen chunks.  High tide was at 6:33am +6.7' and low tide drains way out at 1:51pm -1.3'.  There's a west swell out of 264º at 4.3' and it was a choppy, frothy 4' and the wind was having it's way with the swell.  Maybe mañana.  Supposed to be offshore...

On the pier we find our version of the "Three Wise Monkeys."  Originally from Japanese lore, it's been adopted universally and we decided it was perfect for not commenting on this morning's surf... The Professor, A-aron, and Doc ?.

The morning checkout crew (#3) wishes you a Happy New Year and hopes you have health, wealth and happiness throughout.  As Tom Waits says, "Until the wheels fall off!"  L. to R.:  Emi-leap, Salgado, Doc ?, A-aron, the Professor and Larry Dairy.
