Win Some, Lose Some Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

The Redondo Seahawk Surf team showed up bright and early (#1) for their annual contest/grudge-match against arch rival Mira Costa.  It started out not-so-hot and got worse from there.  Giving the devil their due, Costa has a great team, but Redondo isn't exactly an easy pass.  So, it's time for a little soul searching and maybe recommitting ourselves to the task.  Costa can be beat and Redondo's the one to do it!

A foggy hazy morning with visibility less than a half a mile.  Winds were moderate to light onshore and the sea surface was lightly textured.  The air temp was 54.3º and the water is 58.3º.  A one-tide wonder today with a low at 11:32am -0.2'.  Even with such a low there were still some decent corners and it could be fun tomorrow morning as well...

Lights, camera, action!  Jah and Burnsy (#2) are shooting a short film on the morning ritual.  We won't say too much about it, but we'll let you know when it's a wrap.  Wait, maybe there'll be a wrap party!

Motoring is always an adventure.  Yesterday, the bus (#3) took a dive with a broken clutch cable.  The Professor had it towed home so he could work on it there.  You know how they always make it sound like installing a clutch cable in a VW is so easy.  Well, Okay, it's not rocket science, but it also requires a fair amount of greasy unbolting, threading uncooperative clutch cable and putting everything back together all while under the transmission with not very much swinging room.  Keeping our greasy fingers crossed that it all works in the a.m.

A very moving ceremony at St. James for Brendan Simmons father Jack.  If you were wondering where Brendan gets a lot of his good nature, all you had to do was listen to the stories about Jack.  The family had a quote from John F. Kennedy that resonated with many of us:

"We are tied to the ocean.
And when we go back to the sea,
whether it is to sail (surf) or to watch it,
we are going back from whence we came."

Our condolences to the Simmons family...

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it"
The Professor!!
