Cold Snap Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Don't know if you noticed, but it's really cold out there!  On our way to the beach it was 39.9º on the time and temperature sign.  The good news is that the water is a full 20º warmer at 59.9º, but we're not convinced at how good that is.  There's 10 miles visibility and a bit of hazy sun with no clouds.  Winds are offshore by 1 to 3kts and the sea surface still has a bit of left over oscillation from the wind yesterday.  Speaking of yesterday's wind, we caught a news clip of palm fronds falling on a car in west L.A.  We're waiting on the Go-Fund-Me request to pay for the guy to buff out his Maserati...  Despite that tragedy high tide was at 6:09am +5.9' and low tide will be at 1:46pm -0.7' for quite a generous tidal swing.  Between the tide and the wind and Billy McIntosh throwing Blue Nun bottles into the rocks at Sapphire, there should be some good beach combing...

Why is this man smiling? (#1)  Here he is standing on the beach with the board he was riding now in two discrete pieces and by all accounts really no way to put it back together.  Well, he might be smiling because now he can get dressed and warm up.  Or it might be that his girlfriend has just told him that she's getting him some hot chocolate to soften the blow.  OR that's not HIS board!  Yep, that's it.  Matthew Ruhe borrowed his brother's board this morning and now he's returning it in two pieces.  Being that they're twins, they could split the pieces and be even.  But this is a surfboard and not a candy bar, so...

Apropos of the cold, we're thinking that one of these times, like when it's not 6:00am, we'll go into the store that has the time and temperature sign and tell them how much we enjoy that info.  We're not going to tell them that we noticed it took them weeks to change the clock to Standard Time!
