Lost Boys & Co...

Three more shots from last Sunday the 20th.  #1 Has Chris holding back waiting for a little tube to shape up.  #2 Has Ché further down the line, ready to duck under this nice little section.  He's got a bit of the butt-brake going to keep from rocketing out of the whole enchilada.  #3 Explains why they call it "Sandyland."  Left, right, up, down and always really fast.  And fun to watch...

This morning Danger Boy and the Professor wandered about checking things out.  Several high points:  Breakfast with the guys at Brother's.  Yakking with Don Swift, Sandy, John Blanco and his brother-in-law and the other checkers.  Appreciating the changing scene as the weather rolled across the never dull panorama of the bay.  You'll notice that the surf isn't listed.  Well, there's 15 miles visibility and the sky is mostly cloudy.  Out to sea you can see some active rain cells dropping their liquid sunshine.  Winds were all over the map, variable from 2 to 6kts and later gusting to 15kts out of the SW.  The sea surface is hacked and verging on white caps (given any time, the white caps should be the rule and not the exception.)  The air temp was 51.5° and the water is 56.8°.  Low tide is late at 10:42am +0.1' and high tide will be at 5:48pm +3.1'.  The buoy is reading a west swell out of 262° at 3.3'.  It's looking a lot smaller at around 2' and pretty broken up.  It's supposed to get cold as the front passes through and cause things like this:

FOREST ROADS PREPARE TO CLOSE DUE TO SNOW AND ICY CONDITIONS

The Los Angeles County Public Works Department has announced that based on the forecast of snow and icy road conditions, it intends to close public access to all County roads within the Station Fire burn area at noon on Friday, February 25, 2011.

As a result, the following roads will be closed to all traffic with the exception of emergency vehicles, including Public Works personnel:

·        Angeles Forest Highway from Aliso Canyon Road to Angeles Crest Highway ,

·        Big Tujunga Canyon Road from Big Tujunga Dam to Angeles Forest Highway , and

·        Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road

Local access will not be permitted until the road closures are lifted.

Once roads can be made safe for travel, they will be reopened.  To enable snow-enthusiasts to reach fresh powder, Public Works will prioritize the opening of the following roads:

·        Big Tujunga Canyon Road from Big Tujunga Dam to Angeles Forest Highway , and

·        Angeles Forest Highway from Big Tujunga Canyon Road to Angeles Crest Highway

Maybe you have something you can do inside?

Dear All,

More good news…this afternoon, my Dad was discharged from the hospital and went home.  Not sure if riding in the back seat of my truck was exactly the grand return he had envisioned, but we made it just the same.  His progress has been incredible…intubated and sedated in the ICU Monday night to walking down the stairs to his house this afternoon.  He'll have two weeks of recuperation and daily therapy at home, but given his progress this week, calls for tennis, surfing, and world travel are soon to ensue.  Thanks again for all of your prayers and well wishes.  I've saved them all and will present them to him this weekend.

While at the hospital, my Dad was dubbed "VIP" by the nursing staff due to his inordinate amount of doctor friends.  Needless to say, when he needed something, they looked after him well.  A special thanks to Harold, Gene, John, Tom, Jim, and Fred.  A very special thanks to Fred…he was there with him beginning the early morning of his surgery, came back every morning prior to my arrival, and plans to assist him during his ongoing physical therapy.  Everyone knows how much fun it can be to hang out with my Dad, but this event proved that these experiences are more than friendship; they're heartfelt family ties.

Be well,

Paul

Okay, you did such a great job with Miloe, send a few good vibes toward Arlene Staich, who suffered a heart attack and went through a quadruple by-pass this week.  We trust this has nothing to do with holding her breath every time fellow Lost Boy, Andrew jumped from an airplane!  Our best to Arlene and the family...

(Note:  The report will be coming through until Wednesday and then sporadically after that until Thursday the 10th of August.  We'll be down in Puerto Escondido, hanging with Donnie Souther at his Zicatela villa.  Last report on conditions:  Air 81°, water 81°, surf 3' to 4'.  We like that!  We'll try to get off a couple of reports while we're down there!  Water 81° - f'n A!...   Ed.)

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
 The Professor!!
