Whim-Wham Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Here we are caught in the middle of another summer day and the calendar hasn't got the slightest idea.  What bothers us, is that somewhere, someone, is keeping count and they're going to exact their winter's days sometime in the middle of what we have come to call "summer."  Call it karma or superstition or GROUNDHOG DAY!  It's flamin' GROUNDHOG DAY!  So did Phil see his shadow?  We're betting he saw it and there'll be a lot more winter in store for everyone.

Photo #1.  Don Swift stylin' at Sandyland.  He's got about as many screws, bolts and rods in his leg as the average hardware store, but the boy can work it.  Always makin' things look easy...  Then there's Sapphire's answer to Captain America - Andrew Staich.  Here he's rockin' the inside in that skydiving style he's perfected at 10,000ft.

Sunny with 22 miles visibility and a bit of ambient haze floating lazy above the foreground.  Winds were offshore at checkout from the SSE at 6.0kts and the sea surface was glassy.  The air temperature was chilly at 45.2° and the water was 58.1°.  High tide was at 8:22am +5.9' and low tide will be at 3:16pm -0.8'.  The buoy is reading a SW swell out of 216° at 2.3'.  It's too high tide and the swell is currently pretty weak, so today isn't looking good...  BUT, everyone is saying tomorrow is going to start showing a good swell, that should hold all the way through the weekend.

Speaking of the weekend, a good way to kick things off would be to go to Keegan's on Friday night and catch Boomfwappa and the Egyptian Surfers.  Some fun oldies, good dancing and special guests!  Whaddya mean who?  Like Kirsten from New Joisey and Marco from Oporto, Portugal!  It's more fun than an Egyptian street party...

Welcome:
Who is this Marco guy, and why is he trying to shame me into icy waters?
Paver
(That would be Marco Andre Leao - recently from Portugal...  He'll be interning at PTN for Zoë.  He rocks...   Ed.)

The snow covered branches are beautiful to look at from our homes near the beach with the sun pouring down covering us with a golden glow!
Then I remember the Buffalo winters. Shoveling to get out of the door, shoveling to the porch, shoveling the steps down to the driveway, then shoveling the driveway, and the mountain of snow the plows left at the street entrance to the driveway. We would have to start our cars and go back inside to finish getting dressed for the day while the car "warmed up."
They can have their beautiful snow scapes. I prefer driving to see the snow to driving in it :)
Tell Marco he looks like he knows what comes next. Must be fun to watch him learn :)
Carol
(Way fun to watch him get the stoke!   Ed.)
