Thousand Palms Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Damn, what a fine day today!  A little different than Tuesday afternoon when we watched the sky start to color.  You could see that it was getting ready to throw some weather at us...  So yesterday was a bit windy and rough, but today...  Whoopee!  (Some nice shots just came in from Vinnie and we just had to run'em.  Like Billy McIntosh getting ready to change directions on this Topaz zipper.  Or how about Purpus covering a lot of ground on this outside rolling through Don Swift's acreage.)

A few scattered clouds banging around the azure skies, with almost no hint of the smoggies and 20 miles visibility.  Winds started off, offshore and then calmed for the longest time.  The sea surface was smooth to a slight tack.  The air was a chilly 41.6° and the water continues to simmer at 57.4°, although there were some warm spots trying to get our attention.  High tide was getting late at 7:59am +6.4' and low tide follows at 2:47pm -1.3'.  The buoy was reading a WSW swell out of 247° true, with a 4.3' height.  It was rolling right down the alley and we're calling it 3' to 6' with Topaz showing some outstanding lines and yawning tubes as the tide got lower.
Samba (Happy Hour) on Friday evening starting around 6pm.  Catch up on the week in review, as we meet in the outer bar and tease Mɐrk about his role in "The Town."

Then we have the Professor looking like he knows what he's doing.  It's pretty damned amazing what stop action photography can capture and what it can't.  For all intents and purposes it looks like the Professor is doing a great job of laminating his latest project, under the watchful eye of the master Birdie.  Actually, he was on the edge the entire time and only some expert coaching and touching up from Birdie and Oscar pulled this blade through the operation.  To top it off he had Don Kadowaki and Ché offering encouragement, like:  "Just relax!"  "Let it flow."  "More pressure!"  "Less pressure!"  "More float..."  To tell you the truth, it was a hell of a lot of fun!  The Professor:  "Yeah, I'd try it again...  I liked the clothes."

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
 The Professor!!
