Forbidden Island Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

We were wondering about the visibility this morning and then we realized we could see Catalina from the Hermosa Pier.  Catalina is 26 miles away, so it's at least that clear.  But we were really wondering about the outfall there in the foreground of today's pic.  They have it marked with a nice bright yellow cone, so you can't accidentally run into it.  Then there are those handrails so you can stand there and watch the water gush out, while you hold on for dear life.  Considerate of them really... since it's supposed to rain all weekend long...

So, like we said, there's 26 miles visibility under cloudy, marginally threatening clouds.  Winds were offshore at checkout time at 1.9kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 55.0° and the water is still 59.7°.  Low tide is at 6:18am +1.2' and high tide will follow at 11:59am +3.0'.  The buoy is reading a pretty consistent 2.6' to 3.0' swell out of the SW at 235°.  We're calling it 3' and fun to poor...

One more time:  Boomfwappa and the Boomfwappa-Tones will be playing at Keegan's tonight at 7pm.  We understand there will be some folks going to the BFD at 5:45pm and then heading over to Keegan's for the music.  Despite all of your warnings, we will be having the hot dogs at Keegan's.  That is, unless it rains.  In that case we will wait 72 hours and then have the hot dogs when the bacteria level is reduced...
