Troll Under The Bridge Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

It's good to be King or at least the Coordinator of the South Bay Dozen.  Yep, that's Mexico Mike Murphy under the administration tent getting lathered up with sun block by his attendant/apprentice/ward.  By all accounts they had a really successful event and next year it promises to be so prestigious that he'll have a girl attendant doing the sunscreen honors.  Our second photo features Ross "Roscoe" McKinnon and Allen Walti, both renowned lifeguards and watermen.  It was fun just hanging with them and listening to all the stories of past competitions.

A bit of a surprise swell showed up this morning as the sky cleared and we had 15 miles visibility.  To add to the surprise the winds stopped and then turned full offshore by 9.7kts, leaving a light tack on the surface and brushing the waves, just so...  The air temperature was 60.7°, but has been warming quickly and the water is 64.4°.  Low tide is at 6:28am -1.1' and high tide will be at 1:12pm +4.0'.  The surf jumped to 4.3' during the night and only started to settle to 3.9' this morning.  The swell is out of 204° SSW and we're calling it 3' to 4', with some bigger outsides.  Fun surf, with some long walls that seem to hold up just long enough to do some sneaking...

Our last snap is of LoLa at Louie-Louies sampling a bit of Antony's Phó.  Antony is the new owner and he hails from Vietnam.  He has kept the same menu and the same Monday Night specials, but he has added some of his signature Vietnamese dishes as well.  He brought his sister up from behind the Orange Curtain and she spent two days working on the broth for the phó, getting it just right.  It takes 10 hours just to simmer the broth!  By the time it's dished up to you, there are fresh ingredients (basil etc.) that you can add to enhance the taste.  The bad news is that he's thinking he might not make it a regular item until the winter, because it's so hot.  He thinks most folks won't want a hot dish on a hot night.  When have we ever had something like that???
Tomorrow:  Spring Rolls - Yowzum!
