Two Toned Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Our first pic is of the refrigerator in John Conway's shop.  Looks like whatever is inside might not be so tasty.  Turns out that's where he keeps his nitro-methane for his dragster.  They cool it down and then fill the bottle with a few more ounces of fuel.  Seems like you'd have to use it before it got too warm, so's not to have it explode in your ice chest...

After a fine Memorial Day weekend (along with the Hermosa Fair for some commercial diversion) we have overcast skies and 10 miles visibility.  Winds have been changeable all morning, starting off offshore, then changing on, then changing back offshore.  Blowing about 3 to 5kts and the sea surface has a distinct tack to it.  The air temperature was 59.7° and the buoy tells us that the water temperature is 59.9°, although it doesn't seem quite that warm.  Low tide is at 7:23am -0.1' and high tide is at 2:26pm +3.6'.  The buoy is reading a SSW swell out of 208° at 3.0'.  We're calling it 2' to 3' on a rising tide and with the wind bouncing around there's a chance you can still get some fun ones!

Our second shot is why the refrigerator in the first pic runs so efficiently.  When we looked at the glass fuses we decided we should check out the wiring in the garage (where we could see it.)  Just like we imagined, it was the old cloth wiring on the pole to post glass insulators.  In other words it looked like someone had taken apart a toaster and installed the insides for wiring.  We carefully put the lid back on and waved bye-bye...
