Tasty Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

We have this nice centerpiece of succulents and cacti on the table on the lanai.  Danger Girl gave us the idea.  Sometimes when we go to the beach, we collect shells, sea glass and interesting stones and put them in our various planters.  While diving through the surf at Sandy Hook, N.J., the Professor found this great snail shell about 2½" across and decided it would make a nice addition to the mix.  What he didn't realize was that there was a rather large hermit crab in said shell.  Fortunately, he had packed his treasures in a plastic bag and spared the rest of the luggage from smelling like the underside of the pier.  Unfortunately, the crabby fellow did not travel well and didn't make the high altitude transition.  Kinda bummed us out...  You can see his carapace poking out from the bottom of the shell...

Overcast skies this morning, with 15 miles visibility.  Winds were lightly onshore at checkout by 3.3kts and the sea surface was glassy.  The air temperature was 60.8° and the water was 62.4°, probably about 65 in the surfline.  High tide is at 10:31am +5.0' and low tide will be at 3:56pm +1.1'.  The #46221 buoy is reading a W swell out of 268° at 2.6'.  We're calling it 2' and poor to fair.  Take a look though - there were some little ones that looked fun...

From our newest addition to the list:  Yuko Mukai
Hello Professor,
Thank you for your email and also for adding me to the list.
I received my first report today.
My regular spot was Ratt Beach or Torrance Beach, sometimes Hermosa Beach or El Porto.
I used to surf a lot with Dave Kaneshiro who used to live in a small house right off Pier Ave. and
we used to surf  in far right off  the Pier.
I also used to work at a small sushi bar called Sushi Sei on Hermosa Ave. which is not there any more.
I lived in a house right on South Pacific Coast Hwy in Redondo Beach, right before Knob Hill.
My friend Dave is now back in Oahu with his family and I sometimes visit them in Hawai'i and surf there as well.
I still reminisce about my days in California and the report is a perfect way to always remember about Calif.
I look forward to receiving more reports!!
Yuko
(Long time list member, Jason Rucker recommended Yuko try out the report!  He is living in Tokyo, Japan, has gotten married and travels the Pacific.  Yuko, just signed on to the company for which he works.  We hope that both Jason and Yuko will send us some reports from Japan and wherever they might travel!  The best to both of them!  Ed.)

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
 The Professor!!
