Turning Tyrian Purple Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

You know how you're walking along in Chinatown and they have all these interesting buckets full of spices, dried fish and stuff for sale.  This was a bucket of big green frogs.  About as big as your hand with a bit of wrist thrown in...  Yummm...

You also know that when you haven't been surfing for a while you'll do strange things to get wet.  No, nothing that strange, but we did get in the water this morning just for grins and it was pretty fun!  Here are the numbers:  Visibility:  1.5miles, with variable haze.  Wind:  From the SSW by 7.2kts.  Sea Surface:  Tacked.  Air Temperature:  A chilly 56.5° (coldest recorded for this date!)  Water Temperature:  60.3° (ditto on the coldest for this date.)  Low tide:  7:53am +2.5'.  High tide:  3:47pm +4.9'.  Swell direction:  SSW 201° true.  Swell height:  3.0'.  Surf:  1' to 3'.  Conditions:  Fun!  Even though the buoy is reading some pretty cold temps, in the surfline it's probably around 64°.  Everyone was wearing long rubber, except for Tony Fortun, who was bare backing it.  When the morning started out it looked like it might break sunny right away, but it stayed overcast until almost noon.  The secret is to find a spot that is still catching a bit of the swell, but has something to stop the wind.

Have you ever heard of "simony?"  Photo number 2 is the basic definition.

Any time a place has a "wall of fame" we try to get a photo of it.  This was in "Little Italy" and they had some pretty bullet proof entries.  Our faves were, Joe Piscopo, Cousin Brucie and Frank Sinatra Jr.  Now they had a photo of the guy we always thought was Frank Sinatra Sr. (you know, Ol' Blue Eyes.)  We always thought his father was Tony.  Did someone make a mistake?  We're not telling them... The folks at Sorrento Cheese are very sensitive...
