Mayday Mayday₂ Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

So, one evening we wandered over to the "Floridita Club," famous haunt of Hemingway and his crew.  It was here that (as the story goes) Hemingway assisted in the construction, development and testing of the first daiquiris.  To honor those who had gone before us we tasted the "original" and several mutations.  The verdict:  Not in the top five of our list.  We'll just say that #1 is Jim Campbell's famous daiquiri made in an industrial model "Slurpee®" maker...  Ask Mark Mitchler...

Another stellar summer day in the Southland.  Clear, slightly hazy skies and 15 miles visibility.  Winds were off at about 5.4kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air was a warm 72.2˚ and the water is still chillin' at 58.8˚.  Low tide is at 6:18am -0.3' and high tide will follow at 12:55pm +3.5'.  We have a SSW swell out of 212˚ at 2.0' and it's just about that on the beach.  Maybe a tad better mañana...

Photo #3.  Cars lined up outside the Floridita.  Later we learned they were shooting a movie on (who else?) Hemingway and it was supposed to be 1958!  We spoke in black and white the entire evening...
