Just A Phase Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

A couple of standout surf spots on the island of Barbados.  #1 is called "Duppy's" after the famous Portuguese explorer Manuel Duffy.  A Cove-like right with an occasional left, it was head-high on this day with a stiff wind out of the north-east.  A tricky paddle you had to swing to the right of the bay to avoid the bump coming back from the cliffs.  That and the current made staying on the peak a bit dicey, but you could paddle high and then drift back into the spot for the sets...

High clouds and 10 miles visibility with winds offshore by 1.6kts and a smooth sea surface.  The air temp was 56.3º and the water is creeping up at 61.9º.  High tide was at 5:22am +4.9' and low tide will follow at 12:37pm -0.1'.  We have a WSW swell out of 268º at 4.6' and it was 3' to 5' this morning with some occasional nuggets...

#2 is Soupbowls and is probably the best known of all the Barbados breaks.  It doesn't look that big until you get into it and then you realize how beefy it is.  The next cove to the south is called "Parlors" and on the last day we were there it was TWICE as big as Soupbowls.  We only saw two guys make it out and it had what looked like 15' faces...

#3 was the most colorful dinner we had, counting the fish, the yams and the potatoes.  Finley was showing off the Conger, when she realized it still had some kick...
