Wave Of The Future Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

The water in Barbados ranges from deep-ocean blues to pastel sea foam greens.  Photo #1 is near the now defunct "Sam Lord's Castle."  The point was used by a phenomenally lazy (or smart) pirate who lit the reef at night to make it look like an harbor entrance and when the ships went aground he and his band would row out and pillage and plunder.   It was a living...

Nice to have our electricity back on!  Foggy this morning with 50yards visibility.  Winds were light out of the NE by 1.1kts and the sea surface was a bit bumped with low tide backwash.  The air temperature was 56.0º and the water was 61.7º.  Low tide was at 11:07am +0.9' and high tide was at 6:06pm +2.9'.  We have a west swell out of 260º at 3.6' and it was 3' to 5' and some wild backwash at times with the low tide...  Supposed to be building over the next few days...

#2 is Fin and Mike out on the north side of the island where the surf and surge are incredibly powerful.  As opposed to most of the island this area had dangerous looking cliffs and no easy water access, unless falling into this cauldron looks easy to you...

#3  The Professor points out the left at Freights Bay.  You can ride from the top left all the way to the bottom right on a good wave.  This spot is shadowed a bit by the southern tip of Barbados, but it still gets enough wrap to make it fun...  Sometimes the water would look so clear, it felt like you were flying and not attached to the wave...

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
