Tune Up Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Thought this image was intriguing.  The owl as the symbol of wisdom or night, with the skull on it's breast.  The skull has a cross on it's forehead...  Apparently, it's suggesting that you'd be smart to not go out at night...

Windy, on shore, gusting to almost 25kts at times, but currently in the 12kt range.  20+ miles visibility with a few scattered clouds quickly scudding by.  The sea surface is chopped up with whitecaps.  The air temperature is 57.5º and the water is 60.3º, despite the wind trying to cool things down.  High tide was at 9:29am +5.0' and low tide will be at 3:46pm +0.1'.  We have a 6.6' swell out of 264º west.  It's a ragged 6' to 8'...  The good news is that it's supposed to calm down during the evening and we might just have some nice wind swell waves mañana...  Check it out...

Lots of possibilities for eats in Puerto including lots of small family restaurants.  This one is owned by Miguel who has Mom doing the cooking.  He also waits tables at the Split Coconut and helps out at other spots when they call.  But at 5pm his garage becomes "Miguel's" and between his fish and chips and the fresh shrimp brochette you left feeling pretty sassy.  An added plus was that because everyone is stressing about the Zika virus, the malathion fogger came by and was spraying the curbs and street where there might be puddles.  Miguel ran out and stopped the guy before he fogged the establishment, but not before we all got a heavy whiff of malathion.  Actually, even through the jungles of Palenque, we never had any problems with bugs...

Playa Zicatela was pretty hairy, so we convinced Capt. Donnie to take a trip to Chacahua.  Part of the fun of this excursion is the boat ride from Zapotilito to Chacahua...  Here the Professor and the Capitan sit forward (with boards) to allow the panga to plane at a more advantageous attack...
