Thingamabob Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Let's start out with a shot of Dave Doubravsky's board.  They're putting in the fin boxes today and it will probably get sanded tomorrow.  Being that Dave surfs down south, all of this activity should have no effect on our surf!  YES!

A beautiful Thursday morning with brilliant blue skies and 20 miles visibility.  However the wind has been blowing constantly since last night.  right now it's clocking in at 13.6kts and the sea surface has a pronounced chop to it.  The air temp is 65.1°and the water at buoy 46221 is 65.0°.  Closer to shore we're still calling it around 68°, but don't be surprised if some of the colder stuff mixes in soon.  High tide is at 10:51am +4.3' and low tide will follow at 3:58pm +1.9'.  The buoy is reading a swell out of 234° (SW) at 3.9' and we're calling it 3' to 4'.  Some folks think we might have some nice waves tomorrow.  We're on the lookout!

Notes to the Editor:

Dear Frank,

Please don't knock hedonism until you have tried it.

Thank you,

Sea Wolf

(Okay, we won't...  Ed.)

Pay no attention to the nay-sayers, Frank. You have done a great job and deserve every minute of retirement spent in any manner you wish. Today it's surfing and writing the surf report (or not), tomorrow it may be something else. And, retirement includes dancing at your brothers gigs...that takes a whole lot of energy :) No slacker could keep up with you!
Carol

Is that picture for real?  Who took it? It is incredible!
Carol

(Yep, it's for real - we'll find out who the photog was...  Ed.)

Hello Frank.......

OK rub it in.  One of the most beautiful days in the South Bay and I am organizing Furloughs and layoff....

Regards,
Mayra Houston

(Hey, it all stops at 5pm!  Get down to the beach and get some sand on those feet and take an evening stroll!)

Better a Shark than a Jet, I suppose! Thanks for the lesson - but not the nickname.

The Professor truly deserves his nom de plume (nom de flume?) for taking this girl out of the green glow of the server room and dunking her most thoroughly in the Pacific. Despite being well acquainted with my propensity for walking into walls, tripping over my own feet, and other feats of stunning clumsiness after our shared time at Dominguez, he nonetheless endeavored to set the maladroit Morey upright on a slippery foam projectile. A solid grounding in the basics I received - rule #1, keep the board perpendicular to the shore; rule #2, no fat chicks - before being summarily deposited on the shore sans surfboard, giggling and flailing, a dozen times. I think I've got the fundamentals of paddling, balancing atop the board, and sailing shoreward on my knees - now to learn how to stand up (and stay up!). I had a blast! Thanks again for the lesson and the laughs!

Lawrie "the____" Morey

(First, rule #2 is Corky Carroll's rule.  It's a good rule, but not typically taught in most surfing academies.  Secondly, Ms. Morey is certainly encouraged to select her own nickname.  Once she hits on a good one we'll be certain to use it exclusively!...  Ed.)

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
 The Professor!!
