Flamingo Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

O
kay, so when you're in Boise do as the Boys do and instead of TP-ing the home of those whose attention you wish to attract, you install a flock of flamingos on the front lawn.  It's safe, funny and except for the little plastic droppings, it's pretty clean.

A beautiful fall morning on the day before Halloween.  We have 25 miles visibility, under clear cool skies.  Winds are offshore by 3.8kts and the sea surface is smooth with a slight tack.  The air temp is 56.0° and the water has rebounded a bit to 63.1° (thank goodness!  it was waaay too cold!)  High tide is at 7:40am +5.4' and low tide will follow at 2:07pm +0.9'.  The buoy is reading a small 2.6' swell out of the west at 263° and we're calling the resulting waves 1' and poor.  Good morning for a hot cocoa though...

Our second shot this morning is of Gidget in front of the "Catalnia Coffee Co."  We always thought it was the "Catalina Coffee Co," but she quite conclusively set us straight.  We only go by there a couple of times a day (for like the last 10 years) and never noticed our mistake.  Oddly enough on the north side of the sign it says "Catalina Coffee Co."  So maybe we get half credit?  The funny part was, the lady in the cleaners next door came out when she saw us taking pics and asked what we were doing.  We told her we were taking photos of the sign.  She said, "Oh yeah, they're going to paint it."  We asked if they were going to change the spelling and she gasped and said, "All these years and I've never noticed!"

Brewco Manhattan Beach (formerly Manhattan Beach Brewing Company) re-opened after their remodel last Thursday evening.  48 beers on tap (of course that's counting the fizzy yellow offerings of Bud, Bud Light and Mich Ultra which to me don't qualify as beers) plus 26 bottled offerings.  They are no longer brewing on premises. Same GREAT menu.  Glass garage door up front that rolls up for that great indoor/outdoor feel.  Back to being my "Go-To Place".
(We were there on Wednesday evening and had our usual great time - they start their specials again in November.  Ed.)

Father Rafferty was walking down the street in Dublin when he encountered Mary Kelly. "Well, if it isn't little Mary Kelly. Sure, I haven't seen you since I married you and Tim two years ago at St. Alyouisius parish. How have you been?"

" Good father. Both Tim and I are fine."

"And how many little ones Mary?"

"None yet Father, I'm afraid."

"Ah now that's a shame. I'm goin to Rome next week and I'll light a candle for you at St. Peters."

Three years later Fr. Rafferty once again happens to run into Mary and notes that she is swelled with child. "Well well, Mary. Sure it's good to see you again; and in the family way I notice. Now that's grand.

"Thank you Father. Two years ago I had triplets and last year came the twins."

"Holy mother of God. How you and Tim have been blessed."

"Tim is gone father."

"Gone? What are you telling me gone. How can that be? Gone where?"

"He's gone to Rome Father. To blow out that fookin candle!"

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
