Whispering Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Here's a shot of the west side of the Hetch-Hetchy reservoir as we made the trek to Oompaloompa Falls.  Legend has it that John Muir thought that Hetch-Hetchy was even more beautiful than Yosemite Valley.  That's a pretty powerful statement from a guy who used to climb 100' pine trees during windstorms for kicks.  In the early 20th century the city of San Francisco bought the valley and dammed one end.  It seems that during the great earthquake, most of the damage resulted when they ran out of water and a lot of the city burned down.  Well, that's not going to happen again!  It was gorgeous, especially with a bit of fall colors starting to show.

A beautiful morning with 22 miles visibility and nearly cloudless skies.  Winds were calm and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp at the checkout was 59.6° and the water is 66.7°.  High tide is at 10:58am +5.9' and low tide will be at 6:28pm +0.1'.  The 46221 buoy is telling us that there is a 4.3' swell out of the SW at 227°.  We're calling it 3' to 5' with some bigger outsides about every 10 minutes.  Good and good for you!

Shot the second, is a brown trout that this angler hauled out of the lake.  It was over 18" long and it was the largest trout any of us (including the guy who caught it) had ever seen.  He caught it using a - WAIT!  We're not telling!  We just might head back up there and see if that was someone's little brother!
