Lost Boys & Co...

Blasting on our way from the Topaz International Trump Tower Suites (the 11th floor,) to check out the surf, we spotted this tear-drop trailer on the corner of Beryl and Catalina.  Kinda makes you wanna hit the road and find some hidden spots in Baja or the mainland.  Mazatlan is sounding pretty warm and welcoming right about now...

Visibility was 10 miles this morning, with cloudy skies and a little drizzle in the corners.  Winds were calm and the sea surface was glassy.  The air temperature was 61.3° and the water is 65.1°.  High tide is at 6:28am +4.2' and low tide will be at 11:19am +2.8'.  The buoy is reading a really weak 1.6' swell out of the SW at 218°.  We're calling the surf flat to 1' and poor.  Currently the weather is moving in and we're hoping that the predicted swell arrives this evening or tomorrow.  If it does indeed rain, we'll be more than a little sketchy about jumping in the water right away.  It's been months since it last rained and we're thinking the runoff is going to be pretty toxic.  Then again that's why they invented hydrogen peroxide!

Passing:  Robert "Bob" Larkin, father of Tim "Mahrishi" Larkin.  Mentor, father figure, jokester, fashion consultant, chemist, boat driver and raconteur.  He was 84 and was up on the second story deck doing some repairs.  He did a Paver and didn't survive the bounce.  In his retro uniform of gray sweatshirt (sleeves cut off at the crook of the elbow) and white chino pants, he dispensed wisdom and advice from his garage a couple of doors up from Danger Boy on Rita street.  Looking a bit like W.C. Fields, he was mentor to our group of surfers and water skiers, though he managed to never get himself wet.  His generous sense of humor and droll delivery endeared him to all of us.  Services will be Friday, in Groveland, CA.

Since we started out with the teardrop trailer, we thought we needed an appropriate ride to make it happen.  Our second photo is Charlie Paine's 1938 Buick Special.  Looks like it'll work for us as long as we stay on the paved road...

Finally, thanks for your patience last week.  Of course we'll need to take a couple of days this week to head up north, but we'll try to crank out a full week next week...

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
