St. Wenceslaus Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Here we are just about half way up this fine example of a Sequoia Gigantia.  This is shortly before the ranger took exception to our efforts to climb this beast.  We made it to the lower boughs.  If we had been a little higher we wouldn't have even heard the bullhorn...  The helicopter was way overkill!

Overcast skies this morning and 10 miles visibility.  Winds were offshore most of the morning at about 7.3kts and the sea surface was smoothly brushed.  The air was a chilly 57.2° and the water was 62.1°.  High tide was really high at 8:08am +7.0' and really low at 3:31pm -1.3'.  The buoy was reading a 3.3' swell straight out of the west at 270°.  We called it 3' to 4' and both Torrance and Hermosa had some rideable waves.  Gidget and the Professor surfed Hermosa and Gidget got a long left that almost had her shooting the pier.  Near the end of the session she called for four "one more wave(s)."  So she had a good time...

Bishop Montgomery had a contest this morning and the Knights acquitted themselves rather smartly.  If you're interested, the remainder of the season looks like this:  Dec. 9, 12, 16 (all at Hermosa Pier at 6:30am.)  The finals are also at Hermosa, with the prelims on Jan. 12th & 13th and the finals on the 23rd.

You can always count on the Lions to be part of any outrageous festivities.
Go Lions!
(Fortunately there weren't any Christians in attendance!  Ed.)

Speaking of pagan idols, this fellow turned up at the parade looking like a cross between Bacchus and St. Nick.  All the hair was his as well as the stuffing and costumery.  You kinda got the idea that he looks like this all the time.  On the other side of that belt he had a huge stein loosely attached and at the ready.  Some steaming mead was certainly in order...  Prosit!

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
 The Professor!!
