Lost Boys & Co...

All the time, we're in Hermosa and there are people taking pics of the civic Christmas tree.  We wondered, "What's the big deal?  It's a Christmas tree.  Haven't people seen Christmas trees before?"  So, because we're not shy, we asked this couple taking a photo:  "Why are you taking a photo of this particular Christmas tree?"
She:  "Well, we come from the east and right now everything there is covered with snow!  And you can see the beach in the background and there are people playing volleyball in the sand."
LB:  "So you're doing a bit of gloating on your vacation!"
He:  "Dude, it is so nice here!  We'd be freezing at home."
LB:  "That was an excellent use of the familiar "dude," where are you from?
She:  "We're from Spincich Lake, Michigan."
He:  "They had the coldest temp in the country today!"
LB:  "How cold was it?"
He:  "Minus 14!"
LB:  "Holy shit!  It was cold here this morning too."
She:  "How cold was it?"
LB: "Uh, 48.7°..."
They:  (Crazy laughter!)
LB:  "Well, that's cold for us.  Guess we'll take a picture too..."

We're looking across the bay and it's pretty much clear as a bell.  25 miles visibility and just a touch of haze.  Winds started out onshore this morning from 10 to 15kts and the sea surface was lightly chopped.  We checked about an half hour ago and the wind had switched and was now coming from the northeast!  The chop has settled and it looks quite a bit better than earlier.  The air temp is still a bit chilly, but better than the 48.7° we had at first checkout and the sun is nice.  The water temp is 58.6°.  Low tide was at 7:55am +2.7' and high tide will follow at 12:47pm +3.5'.  So not a big tidal differentiation.  The buoy is reading a 4.9' swell out of 265° W.  We're calling it 3' to 5' with a 10sec interval.  If you have a chance, take a look.  It could be changing around!

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
