Thorium Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Our photo today explains a lot.  This is the house in which Boomfwappa and the Professor resided in from 1955 to 1960.  256 North H St., Tulare, California (in those days there were no Zips, area codes or private telephone lines!)  The thing we noticed right off, is that the hitching post that used to be in the front of the house had been removed.  Probably by some antique collector.  When the guys lived there, the house was already over a hundred years old, so it's around a hundred and fifty by now.  It was made out of redwood and had 12' ceilings and a great root cellar.  In the summer they had a swamp cooler for some relief from the Valley heat.  Sully convinced us to get a photo before the place disappears along with the hitching post!

We woke up to clear skies and offshore winds!  Kinda surprising, given the forecast.  Visibility was 20 miles, with a bit of haze.  Winds were light to moderate at 3.9kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 44.4° (if 666 is the sign of the devil 444 must be the sign of the bewildered) and the water was 59.0°.  Low tide is at 11:17am +1.0' and high tide will follow at 5:02pm +3.6'.  The swell is looking big in some places and completely missing others.  It's supposed to be 3.9' out of 255° WSW, but along the avenues it's 5' and pounding and at Hermosa it's breaking in block long sections.  Haggerty's was breaking weakly with 10 guys out and Rat wasn't breaking at all.  Topaz and Sapphire were also not happening.  Once again, we're waiting on the weather.  It's supposed to start raining late this evening, so that could change the entire playing field.  Check it in the am!
