Basking in the Alpenglow Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Some folks study in dark dank rooms with little ventilation, drinking tepid beverages and ruining their eyesight.  No, not The Captain of the Portagee Ski Team.  After a spirited day on the slopes he retired to the bar in the Shore Lodge, with a toddy, hot and cold running waitresses and a beautiful view.  In fact we caught this splendid example of "Alpenglow" just outside the window, a few minutes later...

Overcast this morning with about 10 miles visibility if you stood on Danger Boy's shoulders.  Winds were offshore to calm to zephyr-like puffs at odd intervals.  The sea surface was glassy.  The air temperature was an absolutely balmy 57.4° and the water was 59.2°.  Do you remember what it was last week?  Try 55.9°.  In the sea temp biz 3.3° is a big f'n deal.  Like, it's almost time to get rid of the bootays!  Low tide was at 5:39am +0.0' and high tide will be at 11:54am +3.4'.  The buoy is reading a SSW swell out of 195° at 3.6' and it must be making the turn pretty well because it was 3' to 4' at Topaz and not really jumping the jetty to Sapphire.

"Do these guys really ski?"  Well, we know that they ride up.  Here we have the Captain of the Irish Downhill Team, Steven O'Burke riding with Portuguese Captain Marco Leao.  We asked if they have snow in Portugal.  Capt. Leao, said that they do, but he's now going to be practicing in France.  They cut him a better deal than Switzerland or Italy.
