Friendly Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

So on Tuesday we ran a photo of essentially the same scene without the New Zealand swell running.  The boat in the upper middle of the photo was certainly in no danger of being swamped in the first one, but by Sunday it was a different story.  We could see waves over there beginning to feather, so we coasted over to get a better look (along with a couple of SUP guys.)  As the tide dropped it got better and better.  For some reason all the guys at Queen's thought it wasn't happening, so we kinda had it uncrowded for an hour or so.  Back at the lanai we got this shot of it still going off in the afternoon...

Samba tonight at 5:30pm.  Mark has everything on ice and ready...

Hazy sun on this regulation summer's day here in the Southland, with 9 miles visibility.  Fog bank X-miles off, keeps threatening, but still holding at noon.  Wind was out of the NW by 2.1kts leaving a light ripple on the surface.  The air temp was 61.0° and the water is 4 up to 64.2°.  Felt like it in the surfline, just a bit of the chilblains.  Low tide at 7:35am +1.5' and high tide will follow at 2:28pm +5.5'.  Lots of south in the swell at 186° and 3.0'.  With all that deflection we still had 2' to 3' in Redondo, but everyone is saying that Manhattan north is where to be...  You could surf La Porto with 350 of your closest friends, but would it be right?°

Ché and Sandy Q.O.S. scoping the twin channels in the new secret weapon.  Features twin intake scoops, double-turbo channel, shark-bite waist slot, outboard keelsons, laminar deck and FCS 2" fins.  Fig. 3 gives you an idea of the aggressive silhouette.  When people in the future see this photo, they'll say, "Wow, they had those back in 2011!"  ✠
