Just Like Thalia Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Okay, this is what happens when you ask for extra salsa at Brother's.  Sometimes Oscar just gets the rips and starts doing a little shuffle buck 'n wing extreme-corrida.  At it's best, it gets the whole place dancing...  At it's worst... you don't want to know...

A bit of the smoggles out there this morning, but still about 20 miles visibility under that hazy winter sun.  Winds were offshore at checkout by 5.2kts and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The air temp was 52.3° and the water has crept up to an unseasonably warm 59.0° and later in the day at 3:15pm it got to 60.4°.  Once again this makes us worry that we're going to pay for this warming trend about August when the water is 62 instead of 72...  High tide was at 10:29am +5.4' and low tide will follow at 5:20pm -0.3'.  The buoy was reading a SW swell out of 233° at 3.3'.  The North side of the Hermosa Pier had some nice shoulders and we joined Rasta Pete in splitting a few.  Always fun to surf with Rasta.  A real gentleman and soul surfer...

Living in the So. Bay we get our share of fabulous sunsets, but we're not the only ones!  We shot this one post sun-down in Eagle, Idaho.  We didn't tweak the color and there are some spectacular spectral purples and reds in the mix...

Last night before heading to the theater (we caught "Clyburn Park" at the Mark Taper Forum) we stopped by the Library Bar on Hope near the corner of 6th street for dinner and drinks.  We had the roasted beet salad, pork belly skewers, pepper fries and the marrow bones with horseradish greens (photo #3.)  The food was delicious, the drinks were strong and the ambiance made you feel like you wanted to hunker down for a while.  Owner Mike Leko came over and chatted for a few minutes, then invited us over to "Urbano" next door for some dessert.  We had the pizza crust for two filled with marscapone cheese and topped with Nutella.  Damn, that was tasty!  Can't wait to go back.  When you're down town make sure you check it out!

Our condolences go out to Sandy Malpee who lost her sister this week.  Words are pretty weak, but we hope her memories of their good times stand her in good stead.
