Mini-Bar Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

You know how you get up in the morning and think, "Okay, I'm going to check out the surf with Danger Boy.  We'll get a few waves, then maybe some brekky at Brother's, just kinda hang out in the morning."  Then, the next thing you know you're getting a tour of the lifeguard headquarters in Hermosa from non-other than Donnie Souther himself.  Did you know that Donnie was in the Huntington Surf Contest (At that time it was the Nationals) like, four times and was in the semis a couple of times and in the finals once!  Yeah, he was kinda good.  He was also Captain of the LA Co. Lifeguards for a number of years before he retired.  Danger Boy was especially impressed with the emergency facilities...

A chilly morning here in lotus land, with 20 miles visibility under a distant hazy sun.  Winds were offshore at checkout by 5.4kts and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The air temperature was 40.8 chilly f'n degrees and the water was comparatively toasty at 58.6°.  Low tide is late at 11:09am +0.4' and high tide is at 5:24pm +3.0'.  Tomorrow the tides start hitting the negatives again for a week of minus tides in the pm.  The 46221 Buoy tells us we have a SW swell out of 220° at 2.6'.  It's a bit steep so we're looking at 1' to 2' knee slappers.  Should get better as the week unfolds, so keep an eye out...

Finally, rockin' the hairnet, we have chef Juan at Brother's, takin' a minute from the grill.  He makes, arguably, the best posolé north of Guadalajara.  This Christmas we hodged his recipe for pork loin and it was deluxe!  Stuffed with dried fruit and drizzled with LoLa's special glaze - it was da' bomb!  He puts a little extra flair in even the most pedestrian dishes...  Catch his act most Monday's...
