Enjoying the beautiful weather between the storms! We hit the waves in Hermosa this morning - but more in a minute...
Clear and cold this morning with 25miles visibility and not a cloud in the sky. Winds were offshore by 7.3kts and the sea surface had an offshore tack. The air temp was 49.6℉ and the water was 59.0℉. Low tide was at 9:52am +1.8' and high tide will follow at 3:13pm +3.5'. The buoy is reading 2.0' and the waves actually took notice, because they held right to that 2' mark!
We decided we'd tune up for the Redondo Alumni Contest tomorrow (the first heat hits the water at 7:30am, sign ups at 7am) so even though the surf was a bit small, we decided to give the pier a try. So we paddled out and who did we see but Bob Thomas and Bobby Warchola (both of them went to Redondo.) So we said, "Hey, did you guys know there's a Redondo High Alumni contest tomorrow?" They looked around and both said, "Aw shit!" and then complained about how crowded it would be. We suggested they could surf in the contest and show the rest of us how it's done. That didn't seem to make them particularly happy, but they did paddle through the pier and left the south side to us.
Then when we were motoring the other day we saw this woman in the lane next to us driving while shading herself from the sun. The only problem was that the sun was in front of us and she was looking around the opened Manila envelope. She was serious about sun damage - you can see she was wearing gloves. Now we're all for being careful in matters of solar radiation, but we're also a bit picky about how people are driving. We called this a driving foul and suggested she only go out at night. She told us to go to whatever the equivalent of Chinese or Korean hell is. Okay! We'll see you there...
