Stormy Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Well, it's a stormy Monday and if you have to take a day for it to be stormy and rough outside a Monday is as good a day to do it as any.  This morning we're adding Robert Stassi to the Lost Boys List.  Robert is a long time South Bay surfer and is rumored to have connections all the way to Lunada Bay!  In fact we've heard that he grew up around that area.  His wife Holly works at PTN as a therapist and is a surfer herself.  They've got a little one and a 4year old who is reputed to be the expert on all things Egyptian.  Alright!  We need an Egyptologist on the staff!  Welcome Robert!

It's raining and we have 3miles visibility.  The wind is currently offshore by 7.5kts, but the sea surface has a pronounced bump to it.  The air temperature is 56.3℉and the water is 60.6℉, so it's still not too terribly cold.  High tide is at 10:33am +6.3' and low tide will be at 5:56pm -1.2'.  The buoy is reading a solid 5.6' and the resulting waves are being buffeted by the high tide and floating in at 4'.  If the winds stay off or calm, which is highly unlikely, we could have some good surf later in the day.  We'll keep watching!  Supposed to rain tomorrow as well.

If you have any qualms about the water quality, this is probably the storm you'll want to stay out of the water during.  The runoff in some areas looked especially egregious.  Torrance Beach had some especially pungent dark runoff.  The rest of the beaches are looking pretty brown, but not particularly evil.  We attached a photo from the checkout spot looking toward the jetty.  Rat was looking pretty muddy and you can be sure the runoff, from the golf course up river, is putting in it's share of nitrates and other good fertilizing agents.  Hey, who needs human growth hormone?  Just surf Rat.

Our other photo is of Janine Burdette driving Birdie's VW with her feet while she waves out of the sunroof wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.  She cautioned us not to try this unless you practice in the parking lot for a long time.  She should know - heck she's in the 6th grade!  It's rumored that she and the Professor are teaming up on an art project for Christmas.  You'll just have to wait and see if you were bad or good...

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
 The Professor!!
