Thick As A Brick Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Hey, you've got to like it when you have a fine choice of blades for the morning go-out.  Pictured we have Robert Stassi's quiver.  We especially like that twin fin 5th from the left!

A beautiful day after our rainy Wednesday.  Visibility is 25miles and you can almost touch the Getty Center across the bay.  Winds are offshore by 10.2kts and the ocean has a fine offshore tack going.  The air temp at 6am was 50.6℉and the water has finally dropped to a winter-like 58.8℉.  Low tide is at 8:15am +2.2' and high tide will follow at 1:42pm +4.0'.  The buoy is reading a 5.6' swell and we're calling the waves 5' to 6' with some peakier outsides.

We hit Sapphire this morning for some fun head-high surf.  When we first looked at it we thought we might have just seen a rogue set come through.  But when we got out we realized that we had seen the smaller waves and that the outsides were bigger and just as well shaped as you could want.  The inside was spitting from right to left, but the outside was peaking up so thick that you could just drive into the middle and see how many G's you could pull on the bottom turn before going either way.  We never got close to the rocks on a dozen rights and the lefts had some great shoulders.  Tomorrow?  We hope so, but it looks like the swell is diminishing.  Don't worry, we'll look!
