Tantric Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

We noticed these signs while cruising through Playa Del Rey this afternoon.  We had no idea that we needed a sign to suggest that we should head to higher ground in the event of an earthquake (presumably someplace that would send a tsunami this way.)  We can only imagine that if we had an earthquake here, the tsunami would hit someplace else...  we hope...

Overcast this morning with right around 1 mile visibility and extremely heavy overcast.  Winds at 6am were offshore by 1.9kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was 56.5f and the water was 60.3f.  High tide was at 10:55am +4.9' and low tide was at 6:50pm +0.3'.  The buoy was reading 4.3' and the surf was bumping around at 3' to 5' with various iterations of walls, floating bumps and vertical white water.

It wasn't pretty, but the Bishop Surf Squad hit the suds anyway.  They were going head-to-head with rival El Segundo and as it turned out they came in segundo to El's primero.  This was scarcely believable, since BMHS almost beat them with a fractional squad in the first meeting of the year.  We have no idea if they finally found a couple of secret weapons or whether the Bishop Aquanuts just surfed below their potential.  Where BMHS does shine is in the girls division.  Karly Goins, Laura Thatcher, Megan Laner, Sammy Petroni, and Annie Grove are  one of the strongest girl's squads.  They outscored El Segundo 20 to 11.  They could probably hang with any one of the larger schools as well.  Now if we could just get some dudes with the same enthusiasm...

Megan Chiaramonte is going to be in town this Friday night and we'll be heading down to El Torito to happy-up the 6:30 hour.  Always a good time - hope to see you there.  Rumors abound as to Corey's appearance, but so far they're just rumors...
