Motor Vehicle Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

A few more shots from south of the border...  No. 1 gives you a look at the "point."  After a couple of miles of beach, Puerto hooks into this protected cove.  When it gets really big along the beach, this left-hander begins working and everyone says it's worth the wait.  It didn't get big enough while we were there, but we could tell it had possibilities.  Our second shot is of this surf shop behind the point.  You know how this happens - first you get the explorers who find the spot, then people spread the word and it starts to get popular.  Once people head there regularly, they need equipment.  At that point some enterprising entrepreneur decides to put in a shop.  In this case they had mostly boards, but you know what happens next...  it becomes a clothing store!

Cloudy in So. Cal this morning, but doesn't look like rain.  15 miles visibility with some slight haze.  Winds at checkout time were out of the south by 3.8kts and the sea surface was still way bumpy from last evenings winds.  The air temperature was 51.8° and the water fell a degree to 58.1°.  Low tide this morning at 11:26am +0.3' and high tide will be late at 6:46pm +3.3'.  The buoy is reading a swell out of 261° west at 5.6'.  We're calling it a bumpy, walled-up 4' to 6' with some fat outsides.  We watched Topaz/Sapphire for about 45 minutes this morning, trying to stare it better, with no luck.  Andrew Staich was out along with Mac, Kim and Joe Topaz at Sapphire, but it wasn't organized enough to lure us out. Maybe in the morning?

Finally, we have a shot of Don Souther wading in the river just south of the Zicatela.  At this point near the river mouth, it was about 6" deep and a half a mile across.  Right now there's a lagoon behind a sand berm and the river doesn't empty into the sea, but during the rainy season the river breaks through and replenishes all of the beaches with sand.  Before we got clever and paved all of the channels, that used to happen here!
