Muscle Bound Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

So, we've discovered the only way to get Xena to check out the surf report is to have her photo right there at the beginning.  In this photo she's trying to think of a mixed drink that starts with the letter "M."  How about "margarita!Whoa, that was easy...

Visibility was 12 miles this morning under partly cloudy skies.  Winds were offshore at checkout time and turned around pretty quickly.  At 9am they were already 7.8kts onshore and the sea surface had a definite tack to it.  The air temperature was 50.9° and the water is acting rather springish at 57.4°.  High tide was at 1:25am +4.9' and low tide (which was essentially the only tide of the day) was at 9:48am +0.4'.  By 9am the surf had risen to 3.6' on a WSW swell out of 248°.  The funny thing was, when Birdie and the Professor checked out the surf at 7:30am it was small and broken up.  Hermosa wasn't any better, so they had breaky and yakked with everyone from Chick McIlroy to Babe MacIntosh to Ted Claire.  On the way home, the Professor saw that the rocks were on, so he called Birdie back and told him he was headed for the Cove.  By the time they got to the Cove the wind was up, but it didn't seem too bad.  Chris Bredesen was on his way out and he said it was getting bigger and they should expect a workout.  You know, if Bredesen says it's getting bigger, you should really listen.  The Professor paddled out with a dry head of hair and caught, what he thought was a pretty good sized wave.  That is until he turned around to paddle back out and the horizon started going crazy.  By the time he got to where he had taken off, he was still 50 yards from where the outside was going to break.  As per usual he made it over number one and caught number two straight on the beezer.  There were four of those!  Birdie, being the purist that he is, wasn't using a leash.  By the time he got out, the outside had turned into the inside and he was holding on tight.  He lost his board and was already anticipating the swim, when it popped back up right next to him!  That's what clean living will do for you!  They finally got back out, tried to account for the bigger, improved waves and weren't disappointed.  Birdie got a couple of long lefts and the Professor was stretching the rights into Boneyards.  It wasn't a long session, but it had it's moments...

Our second photo is of Savannah Paine emoting at the the Lee Strassberg Theatre.  She was in the original-cast-written play, "A Day in the Life."  Yes, there was some Beatles imagery there.  She did a great job and she definitely had the best voice of the ensemble.
