Third Party Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

When in Hermosa, do as the Hermosans do.  In this case, they don't lock their bikes when they celebrate St. Patrick's day.  No, no, no!  They stack them up in huge piles and leave them until their through.  We wondered about the person who had their bike on the bottom - but then we thought about it a moment and realized, "This is Hermosa, they're not going to be going anywhere for a looong time.  We did feel sorry for the girl who had the 144 spoke wheels though.  Too nice a ride to be thrown on the pile...

Reprising yesterday, the sun came up as brilliant as you could want.  22 miles visibility, with a slight bit of haze.  Winds were offshore by 1.9kts and the sea surface was smooth to a slight tack.  The air temp was 54.0° and the water was 57.7°.  Low tide started off the morning at 5:24am +0.2' and high tide will follow at 11:28am +3.8'.  A strong swell out of 248° WSW at 3.6' and it was hitting Topaz right on the head with 4' to 5' waves and some fat outsiders.  Being most accommodating, it broke right through the high tide.

All the beach cities were buzzing last night.  Manhattan had all the fronts open with the Brewco pulling up the north wall for the first time this year.  Simmzy's and Hennessey's were packed as usual.  Amazingly, the plaza in Hermosa wasn't wall to wall people.  There were some outrageous lines at Pat Malloy's, Sharkee'z and the Hermosa Hennessey's, but not the totally plugged situation as in year's past.  Might could be the Wednesday - not the primo night for reveling.  Redondo Hennessey's was representing (according to Billy McIntosh who hit all three of Paul's signature establishments.  Just for the record, he's tired of being treated like a piece of meat.  Come on girls - when he says he wants to go surfing in the morning, that means he's not going to drive you home in the am.)  Billy was ripping this morning as well as Birdie who was getting some nice ledgy lefts, smack in the middle of Topaz.  The Professor kept working the peak closest to the jetty and got a few good ones himself.

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
 The Professor!!
