Teotehuacan Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Here we have a shot of the Zicatela as we walked down to do some body surfing in the afternoon.  The beach is about as wide as Hermosa and the sand is similarly composed of granite and shells - looks a lot like home.  Of course if you turn around and see a horsey tied to a palm tree, it begins to register that you're not in California anymore...

Of course, in California this morning we have mostly sunny skies with 25 miles visibility.  Last night's winds are still about with the anemometer reading 15.5kts out of the west.  The sea surface is choppy and white capped.  At checkout time the air temp was 52.5° and the water was 59.4°.  Low tide started off the morning at 5:52am +0.1' and high tide follows at 11:55am +3.7'.  The buoy is reading a west swell out of 265° at 5.2' and we're calling the resulting chaos 4' to 5'.  The good news is that since the morning, things have begun to straighten out and it looks like it might be a bit more organized Friday morning.  We shall see...

Back in Puerto Escondido we climb up to the second story and get a glimpse of the ocean through the front yard's thick vegetation.  What you can't see is that on the beach they're releasing hundreds of baby turtles into the water.  These little leatherbacks get released into the surf under the watchful eyes of the lifeguards so that birds and onlookers don't pick them up and carry them off.  This girl managed to convince the guards that she was going to let the turtle and her brother go after she had given them basic survival directions...

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
