Fistulous Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

A couple more from the 4th...  The Coach and GiGi (ATFYNTK) under the camelias sharing some appetizers with Donna Balcer.  Xena, Lethal Keithal, Dr. Dirk & Patty Yelnik, along with Zan Huling do some time-out on the Portagee bench.

Yet another gray morning, with 10 miles visibility under substantial overcast.  Winds are calm at checkout and the sea surface is almost glassy.  The air temp was 60.3° and the water is a ridiculously chilly 62.4°.  The good news about such cool water temperatures is that hurricanes only happen in waters that are typically 15° to 20° warmer.  So feel free to take down the storm windows and unbatten the hatches.  High tide is at 9:22am +3.6' and low tide will follow at 1:32pm +2.4'.  The buoy is reading a SSW swell out of 191° at 2.3'.  We'll call the resulting waves about half of that at 1'.  A good morning to go paddling though.  Head straight out and when you decide to turn around the onshore wind will give you a lift right back to where you started...

From Maleko Pavement:
Local South Bay ripper Dane Zaun has submitted a video to the contest Innersection.tv.  This is Taylor Steele's (the biggest producer of surf videos) newest project in which he will upload all videos selected to the website (www.innersection.tv), allow the public to vote on them, then take the top 5 clips from 4 different rounds and select these 20 clips for his new movie.  If you want to pass on the link (http://innersection.tv/video/138) for Dane's video, I'm sure he would appreciate it.  Viewers can vote and comment after watching the video.  These videos are from the best surfers in the world.  It is an honor for Dane's clips to be displayed next to these surfers.  Anyway, check it out, comment and vote!  He needs all the votes he can get!
Also, Spyder will be showing the video clip before showing another Billabong video next thursday, July 15th, for our weekly surf video nights outside the Pier location.  There is no video tonight, but there will be videos shown the 15th, 22nd, 29th, and August 5th.  Thanks!

Another reminder that Boomfwappa and Flashbak are playing at the street fair in Old Torrance on Saturday afternoon July 10th.  The music starts at 5:30pm and goes until 8:30pm.  There's festival seating (meaning: bring your beach chair) and we assume that you can either bring your own viands or buy something to gnaw on there. It's down by the Buffalo Fire Dept. between there and the Torrance Bakery.  Dancing optional, but encouraged...

From Donna Paine:
Many of you have been very supportive of Savannah's acting and singing "career" since she was eight years old, so I decided to send out a blast e-mail and let you know about her latest endeavor.  We are so happy for Savannah that she has one of the leads in this year's "Les Miserables" show, which will be held at the Mira Costa H.S. Auditorium -- the last two weekends in July.  Attached is a flyer which gives dates and times.  She will be playing the part of Fantine....so bring a hankie because she will make you cry!  If I can assist any of you in securing tickets, don't hesitate to call me at 310-245-0693 or shoot me an e-mail. Hope to see you there!
Happy Summer, Donna

(Okay, get ready for the weekend and we'll see you at the beach in your parka and Ugg boots.  Oh, by the way, the prohibition on Uggs after Memorial Day has been rescinded... Ed.)
