A Mutable Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

(#1) That would be a "B-Avocado with a side of Bacon" bowl.  Jah, has been on this paleo/keto/scarsdale/no-carb/nothing-white diet and bacon is not only allowed, but it is encouraged!

A bit cloudy this morning and 10 miles visibility.  Winds were testing several points of the compass, but light and leaving only a bit of ripplation on the surface.  The air temperature was 48.0 and the water is 60.0.  Low tide was late at 10:42am +0.9' and high tide will be at 4:42pm +3.1'.  Tides flip this week.  We have a west swell out of 268º at 2.3', but whatever bounce we're getting had it 3' on the inside and 4' on the sets...  Things are better with a bit of tide.  Expecting some rain and weather at the end of the week...

After three changes in venue the folks at HippyTree finally decided on the Unyta Space in El Segundo.  We decided that the search for the gallery was part of the piece as a performance...  Considering, there was a SRO crowd and in some ways the attendees were as interesting as the photographs...  Take #2, With Brendan, Jah, Reneé, LoLa and Adam Hinshaw...  Adam is going to school at Otis Art Institute and has been surfing with the Familia this term...

HippyTree accepts photographic submissions every week and every week declares a favorite image.  At the end of the year they award the top three photos with various HT swag and other cool stuff.  The show allowed us to take a peek (#3) at the array subject matter folks shot.  They also included a large number of runner-ups, which one could argue in many cases were only a pixel away from being part of the 52 selected...

Another interesting attendee was the irrepressible Rey (#4) from San Diego who made the mistake of falling into a conversation with the Professor and Brendan.  She allowed that she was in town trying to sell her latest entrepreneurial venture.  We, of course, asked what that might be.  In a rather conspiratorial  tone, she told us she makes cookies using recycled cookie ingredients.  We thought about that for a second and asked her if that wouldn't be... shit?  She assured us that shit was not an ingredient, but she went to restaurants and got things like rice, oats and other grains that had not been used and grinds them into flour and makes cookies using those materials.  Well, we felt better about that...  Then we asked what kind of cookies she made?  She said, "Chocolate chip!"  We didn't ask where she got the chocolate chips...  She didn't have any cards, otherwise we'd share her info with you and you could eat some recycled cookies...  We would've tried them, but we're avoiding carbs...
