A New Year's Day 2019 Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Okay, let's get used to writing 2019, 2019, 2019...

To start off the year and the morning as well these five young lads (#1), wearing nothing but trunks, hit the surf...  This would have been a great idea in July, but this morning it was 39º (we got a shot of our thermometer in #2, in case you thought we might be stretching things...)  The skies were clear and the wind was offshore by 3.4kts and you can see the sea surface was smooth.  In any case the water was 59.9 and the tide had been high at 5:50am 5.8' and low will be at 12:56pm 0.0'.  We have a 3.3' west swell out of 260º and the tide was keeping anything consistent from breaking.  There was an occasional chest high sparkler, but you had to wait while the wind and low temperature tested your endurance...  Everyone doesn't have to be Shackleton...

Meanwhile in Parker, Colorado at Rancho Boomfwappa, it was at the end of the single digits sporting a 9º air temp.  Here (#3) we have the Professor and LoLa mugging for the camera, while two mule deer bucks try to stay warm by jousting in the background.  The locals tell you not to get in between two of the competing bucks...  Well, DUH...  How many times a year does that cross somebody's mind?

Then this afternoon (#4) the wind was blowing from the southeast and then did a perfect one-eighty and started to blow even harder out of the northwest.  If you believe the forecast it's supposed to continue to blow out of the NNW all morning as well, as the swell drops and the temperature remains chilly...  Sounds like little to no fun...  But we're going to go look anyway...

Happy hour this week TBD...  We'll report as soon as we get a read on that...
