Still Tacky Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

On an unseasonably warm winter day (that would be 40º) in Boston a hundred years ago a molasses tank holding 2.3 million gallons exploded, drenching the entire North End of Boston and killing 21 people.  They were making ethanol from Puerto Rican molasses and with the rise in temperature the molasses began to ferment.  In the afternoon witnesses heard what sounded like machine gun fire.  It was the rivets popping off of the tank!  The tank split open near the bottom sending a wall of molasses down the main street.  It engulfed people and horses and began hardening into crystallized muck.  When rescue workers cracked into the hardened goo they found victims frozen like in the ashes of Pompeii!  Everything was tacky for literally years. Maybe you still get a whiff of molasses on a hot day...
(from "What the Fact?!")

Cloudy this morning with a threat of rain (probably more likely in the afternoon.)  Visibility about 5 miles and winds out of the ENE by 9kts.  The sea surface was smooth and the air temperature is 50.9 and the water is 60.8.  Low tide was late at 11:30am +1.2' and high tide will be at 5:23pm +2.9'.  The tide flips Wednesday and we'll have some minus tides in the afternoon later in the week.  We have a west swell out of 260º at 5.2' and depending on Redondo or Hermosa it was 3' to 6' and the tide giving a bit of  shape to things...

On Saturday Hermosa had some nice tubes and this unidentified guy (#2) got some interior time...  Stutzcanhang said that he spent about a minute total in the green room on this morning...  Betcha it was more like a minute and a half...

Rain?  The Professor and Jah Morgan (#3) decided the rain was light, the runoff clear and the waves were worth it...  If you look closely you can see the falling drops...

Okay, we all understand getting into a wet wetsuit...  But Jah and Stutz (#4) decided that they'd just skip that whole step and basically bareback the session...  They claimed it wasn't as bad as you might think...  No, thinking it was as bad as we might think...

Happy Hour this week is scheduled for Shade Restaurant on the harbor.  5:30 and we'll try to get a fireside table (if the cushions have dried out!)...
