Martin Luther King Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Astronomically speaking it was a "Super Blood Wolf Moon," but by any other name it was a lunar eclipse (#1)...  You had to wait for it to pop through the clouds if you live in the South Bay.  Our neighbor Bill Balzer got this great shot using a filter that helped negate the clouds...

Windy and blowing from the northwest from 12 to 15kts and the sea surface is properly white capped.  Visibility is 20+ miles and mostly cloudless.  The air was a chilly 50.1 and the water is amazingly 60.4.  High tide is at 8:40am +7.0' and low tide is an empty toilet bowl at 3:49pm -1.8'.  We have a blustery west swell out of 274º at 7.2'.  It's in the 5' to 9' range, bumped out and ragged...  could calm down a bit for mañana so take a look...

On the back of the wind this morning the tide made it to the bike path in some spots (#2)...

There were actually some clean lefts coming through beneath Old Tony's and the Horseshoe Pier (#3.)  But then, if you looked over at Kincaid's, the right was working! (#4).  We used to call that "Cattleman's".  We're not sure what the rules are about surfing the inside of the pier these days.  Do you ask the cops, the lifeguards or the bouncer at Charlie's?

Maybe this week the Happy Hour will be at Shade...  We'll get back to you on that...
