Fw: Thisbe Thursday Surf & Culture Report - Wait! It's Wednesday...

Lost Boys & Co...

You fill a much needed gap...

Hmmm...  It's fuzzy and dark, but it still looks like Wheatley hanging out in the palapa, searching for Sailor Jerry.  On the other hand Linda, Oscar and Juan are pretty focused.  How about another sandwich Oscar?  He packs it away for a little guy!

Clear skies and 22 miles visibility this morning.  Winds were calm at checkout and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The air temperature was 55.5° and the water was 63.0°, not too bad for November.  High tide was at 6:08am +5.3' and low tide will be at 12:56pm +0.8'.  The buoy is reading a SSW swell out of 194° at 2.6'.  It must be focused on us pretty straight because we're calling it 3', with some fatter outsides.  Hermosa looked good this morning, but there was a four-way contest with Redondo vs. Mira Costa and PV vs South, so it was pretty plugged.  On the other hand we hit the Cove again, but this time there was a guy out.  Yeah, a guy.  ONE guy.  Just One.  By himself...  for about an half an hour...  Fun...

Regarding ZEN and SURFING:
Anyone who has ever spent time in the ocean, on a surfboard, in pursuit of the ultimate ride, has a basic understanding of Zen principle. As it relates to surfing, the Zen state culminates in the ride, on the wave, where all natural elements and human senses fuse into a spontanious transformation of (no) consciousness, experienced in an absolute timeless moment. Surfing echoes the rhythms of nature: always there, continually reoccurring, no two split-seconds are ever the same. Excerpt from the forthcoming book "Zen of Surfing" by Jack Reilly © 2004.

(Thanks to Sting Ginther for the Zen...  Check out "Zen of Surfing."   Ed.)

the 11th annual t hop is in full effect friday, NOV. 26th.  5 pm at my shack, 711 s. broadway.
rather than simply collecting toys, were collecting sports equipment or gear that can get kids outside and active.  bats, soccer balls, basket balls, baseballs, gloves, jump rope, hula hoops, etc.  the past few years as i was dropping off truckloads of toys, i was looking at the stuff and came to the realization that despite the best intentions, we may have been more a part of the problem than a part of the solution.  friends, fam, and smiling strangers are all welcom.e. hit me up with any questions, RSVP appreciated.  food/drinks on me at the house.  BYO bike!!!
