Wailful Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

So, there's only one story today and we're sorry there is...  Our first photo shows Andy Irons charging some big-ass double-up in some crazy giant spot on this water world.  That he should die in a hotel room is kinda like Patton getting run over by a truck...  He's from an old Redondo family.  His uncle Rick and Boomfwappa bagged groceries together at Lucky's (now Albertson's on Ave. H.)  Our condolences to his family and friends.  He lived more intensely than a lot of folks out there and surely stuffed and surfed several lifetimes into his own allotment...  RIP Andy...

While everyone was waiting for big waves the ocean decided today wasn't the right day.  A marvelous blue sky with 25 miles visibility.  Winds were offshore by 5.1kts and the sea surface was as glassy as Mahk's patio tables.  The air temperature was 64.1° and the water was close at 64.0°.  High tide was at 7:30am +6.2' and low tide will drain the afternoon at 2:05pm +0.0'.  The buoy is being uber uncooperative, showing a west swell out of 280° at 3.3'.  Some days that's enough, but today we're calling it 2' and poor.  Hermosa was 3' and breaking in block long walls with scarce vertical corners.  The bottom appears to be pool-table flat.  We need some swell to dig some channels so we have something to surf into and out of...

We took photo #2 a couple of nights ago.  This guy was waiting for his lady to have a special candle lit dinner.  Given the recent news it looks a bit votive...  We'll go with that...

Finally, here's what Topaz and Sapphire looked like at checkout this a.m.  Not exactly Big Wednesday.

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
