Todos Santos Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Okay, so who would jump out of a perfectly good airplane?  Well, apparently Andrew "the Maestro" Staich, his girlfriend and a couple of their friends.  When the surf gets too small Andrew jumps out of planes for fun.  Andrew and his lady are sporting the red suits.  This reminds us of that smoke-jumper we had a drink with at the Lardo in McCall last winter.  We asked him why he would ever jump out of a perfectly good airplane and he said, "Shit...  they ain't never made a perfectly good airplane!"

Another beautiful summer's day here in the Southland.  Never you mind that it's November - this is the way it works here.  Summer can come at any time, you just have to be ready!  25 miles visibility and crystal clear skies.  Winds were offshore at checkout by 3.8kts and the sea surface was delightfully glassy.  The air temperature was a chilly 54.0° and the water was 64.9°.  High tide was at 6:26am +5.1' and low tide will be at 12:25pm +1.6' (getting ready for some 7'+ tidal swings as the week progresses.)  The buoy is reading a west swell out of 259° at 2.6'.  We're calling it 2' to 3' and a tad faster than we could muster.  Caught a few good ones, but it took a bit of waiting and some additional tide.

This week everyone has been talking about the expected swell coming in from the NW.  CDIP is showing it spinning above us at 300°, while the Geostationary Satellite Server Western Conus shows this great band of clouds headed our way.  The word is that the clouds will stop to the north and the waves will keep coming as the mercury climbs to almost 80°!  This sounds a bit like a fiction to us, but it's always great to dream.  It's supposed to start showing tomorrow evening - we'll be looking...
